How To Start Catching Your Favorite Pokémon in Pokémon GO! Everything You Need to Know
By archaicpress@gmail.com / on July 7th, 2016 / in FeaturedSo you think that you’re an OG? Original gamer that is. Well, then you were probably surprised to find out that you didn’t know everything that there is to know about the new Pokémon GO! But never fear, we’ve got all your answers here.
Now that you’ve downloaded the new app, and started in on the game, we know that you’re likely thinking what do I need to do to catch a Pokémon in Pokémon GO? And the answer is quite simple: GO! Based on global location technology and the concept of “real world gaming”, this application has a built in incentive to keep you moving. If you’re standing still you likely won’t get very far as a Pokémon breeder (hatching eggs), and you certainly won’t encounter very many Pokémon. But if you happen to venture out your front door, you’re likely to find some of your childhood favorites lurking around the corner.
Venturing outside, walking, biking or driving around will give you a start, but if you’re looking to track down a specific Pokémon there’s a bit of strategy you can keep in mind. While all the kinks aren’t worked out yet, Niantic has developed an intuitive game design that lets trainers track down Pokémon using the trails that they leave behind. Local Pokémon will show up in the bottom right-hand toolbar, and depending on the number of footprints left by the creature, you can determine how far away they may be. If there are 3 footprints, your Pokémon is likely far away (move in any direction to see if you’re moving closer towards the object of choice). 1 or 2 footprints are good indicators that a Pokémon is drawing near, and if you see a Pokémon with no footprints prepare to catch it as soon as it appears (trust me, it’ll turn up in no time). It’s kind of like playing Marco Polo with Pokémon, but it’s simple and we like the concept!
Another tip: look for rustling leaves kicked up in the grass. You’ll understand what we mean the more that you play, but it appears that just like in the Pokémon games, rustling or movement in the weeds means that a Pokémon lies near.
Not encountering many Pokémon? Feeling hopeless, like a trainer on his or her very first day?
Don’t worry, it happens to the best of us! If you’re on the GO, and not encountering many Pokés, then there is something that you can do. The key item known as an “Incense” can be purchased or found, and once it’s activated it will lure Pokémon to you for a limited window of 30 minutes! But beware: these are hard to come by, and expensive to purchase! So use them sparingly. And unlike “Sweet Scent” in the games, Incense will just give you a little boost, so don’t expect guaranteed hoards of Pokémon the moment you activate this item.
