Lookbook Feature—Vini Uehara
By archaicpress@gmail.com / on April 12th, 2014 / in FashionWhen we first came upon Vini Uehara’s Lookbook months ago, it was his bold interpretation of dark wintry trends that caught our attention. With smoldering eyes and a bold sense of style, we thought that we had a Brazilian bad boy on our hands. But with a personality that is as vibrant and eclectic as his personal style, it wasn’t too long before we realized that there’s much more than meets the eye with this Lookbook superstar.
Beginning his Lookbook in 2010, Uehara hoped to “show people how I can express myself in different clothes, places, faces, colors and moods.” Now, three years after beginning his visual journal of his daily endeavors into fashion, Uehara has thousands of devoted fans that login daily to intake the fashion musings of this social media phenomenon. When asked to describe his aesthetic and style, it comes as no surprise that the eclectic Uehara is hard pressed to find an answer. “I guess I don’t have a unique style” Uehara says. “Everyday I wake up and I want to explore different worlds. Sometimes I like to wear colorful prints; sometimes I want to wear black jeans and an old band t-shirt. Depends on the day.”
But whether he’s dressed up for a day in São Paulo, or kicking up dirt with his friends, Uehara brings a unique sense of style to even the simplest of staples. Self described as a creative type, a worker and a dreamer, Uehara’s aesthetic is purely his own. Although occasionally dressing up, adorning a bowtie or scarf for some flair, Uehara is boldly simplistic with his wardrobe—Millennial streetwear at its finest.
Pouring his heart into his view of fashion, Uehara leaves few secrets from his fans. “I don’t have any secrets when it comes to fashion” Uehara said. “I like to show everyone my passion for t-shirts and shoes!” But still, this social butterfly shares whatever he can with his adoring fans. He thought that followers would be shocked to learn that “I don’t eat chocolate and don’t drink milk,” but it seems to us that even in spite of his aversion to cocoa, he remains just as sweet.
With a unique vision of the world and an inspired street style, Uehara may not only turn the internet on its head, but someday the fashion industry as well. It’s clear that there’s a future for him as a designer, because he’s already learned how to sew his way into our hearts.
